Don’t Wait for January; Make December Count

It has been 334 days since you made your New Year’s Resolutions for 2021. How are you doing? Have things gone according to plan? Did you manage to meet and exceed your big goals?

If you are like 92% of people, then the answer to the above goes something like “Not great, life happened, I didn’t get the chance….”

It is very tempting to pack it all in for December, to focus on getting the people in your life the best gifts and having the best time, and worry about those goals on January 1st.

I’m here to encourage you to try something different this year.

Pick one resolution from January, the one that would make the most significant difference to your overall happiness and satisfaction.

Now, look at that goal, and ask yourself, “What part of this goal could I realistically accomplish in 30 days?”

If your goal was to lose 30 pounds this year, how much could you reasonably and healthily expect to lose in the last 30 days of 2021? Five pounds is a good benchmark for one month of weight loss, but I highly recommend getting a coach for targeted help.

Another example: if your goal was to earn an extra $10,000 this year, and maybe you only got a $2,000 raise or promotion, what could you do in the next 30 days to earn more? Write and sell an eBook? An online course? Sell stuff on eBay? Ramit Sethi has plenty of ideas for how to make more money so you can spend responsibly.

The best gift you can give yourself this holiday season is the gift of finishing strong. So take that one big, emotional, significant goal, and work on it for the next 31 days. Work it for yourself, your family, your friends, your pets. They all want to see you win… and so do I.
