For this plan, I will assume that your decorations are up, lights lit, and you have a tree that’s still green.

Monday: If you have to work this week, make sure that your work gets done. You do not want to come back to the office in the new year to a mess. Any groceries you need, have them delivered. Before you balk at the $10 charge (tip NOT included), remember that a typical shopping trip probably takes you at least an hour: driving, gathering, paying, packing, and driving back. If you are making $25/hour at work, you effectively save yourself $10 or more by having someone else do this for you.

Tuesday: Are you having people over for Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Are they staying over? Make sure you have extra sets of clean towels and sheets. If you are going to someone’s house, make sure you have a gift to bring and your bag already packed.

Wednesday: After work today, dust and vacuum. You won’t feel like it, but order a pizza or some Chinese and make an evening out of it. You’ll feel so much better knowing that you harvested your annual crop of dust bunnies. You’ll literally breathe easier too.

Thursday: This might be your last day of work. Finish what you can. What you can’t finish, make a list for yourself to read when you go back. I highly recommend writing yourself an inspirational personal note as well. Leave your future you a little smile and some encouragement.

Friday: Christmas Eve Day! Get your laundry done early, and change your sheets. You won’t want to do any adulting this weekend; get it done now so you can focus on the festivities. Also, MAKE SURE YOUR GIFTS ARE WRAPPED!

On Christmas Eve night, I love doing a Jólabókaflóðið with my friends and family; you exchange books and chocolate and stay up as late as you can reading and indulging. It’s magical.

Saturday: Christmas Day! Make beautiful memories with those you love, free of any nagging doubts or chores hanging over your head.

However you choose to celebrate, whether, with eggnog or egg rolls, I hope you have the merriest Christmas!
