Are you sitting in the lobby of your potential?

A Story About You

Let’s pretend you have landed an interview for your dream job.

You have dressed up, you are in the right place, and it’s the right time. All you have to do is get to the top floor.

You could take the stairs, but then you’ll show up sweaty and disheveled. Plus, you’re already tired from the hike over to the office building.

You could take the elevator, but that involves asking the porter to open the door and push the button for you. And you will be expected to tip graciously.

Or you could sit in the lobby and wait for someone from the top to come down and get you.

Which path are you taking?

If you climb the stairs, you own your journey -every messy step. Make sure to bring some water, and a change of clothes. Maybe some breath mints too.

If you take the elevator, you get some help from the porter. They’ll tell you what the boss is like, and what to expect when you get there. You will get to the top floor faster, and you will show up looking neat and tidy, but you will have to pay the porter.

Or you can wait and bank your future on someone else’s actions. You will gamble on someone you’ve never met before to move from where they are to meet you where you are, without knowing who you are or what you look like.

Now, if you are the one sitting on the top floor, which version of you would you want to show up?

That version of you is what you respect and admire.

That version of you is what will get you where you want to go.

No one notices another nicely dressed person sitting, waiting, and wishing in the lobby. They are too busy getting to the top floor.

Stop living your life like you are the exception to the rule. That fate will guide the right opportunity to you if you sit and wait long enough.

Stop waiting in the lobby of your potential.

Stand up, make a choice, and get to the top floor.

Your next-level self is waiting for you.
